Welcome to Virginia Asphalt Services Inc.
We are an asphalt contractor working out of Charlottesville, across Central Virginia: Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, Nelson, Greene, Orange, Madison and Culpeper. Paving, sealcoating, repairs and maintenance for residential, commercial and municipal projects — whether that is a smooth driveway, a durable parking lot or a freshly paved roadway.
What we are actually selling is the part you cannot see. Grade, base and compaction decide whether a surface lasts five years or twenty, and they are all settled before the first ton of hot mix arrives. That is also why we will tell you when a surface does not need replacing yet — the resurfacing conversation is usually the cheaper one, and it is the one most people are never offered.
Strong foundations, in the work and in the relationships. Call (434) 443-8035 and we will come and look at it.

Paving & Resurfacing
Putting new surface down — whether that is a driveway where there was gravel, a lot built from the base up, or a fresh layer over pavement whose foundation is still sound.
Asphalt Paving
New driveways, parking lots and private roads — graded, based and compacted before a single ton of hot mix goes down.

The maintenance side, and the cheapest asphalt money there is: keeping UV, water and chemicals out of pavement that is still in good shape.
Sealcoating
A protective barrier against UV, water, oil and chemicals — the cheapest thing you can do to keep asphalt from oxidising and coming apart.

Sealing cracks blocks water from seeping into the pavement and eroding the foundation — the repair that prevents the expensive one.

Fixing what has already failed — potholes, broken sections and edges — and the repairs that stop a small problem becoming a resurfacing bill.
Pothole Patching
Potholes damage vehicles, cause accidents and create trip hazards. Regular repairs also head off the expensive resurfacing bill behind them.

Everything below is something we can stand behind. You will notice there is no star rating and no “since 19-something” on this site — if we cannot show you where a number came from, we have left it off.
A free assessment tells you which one you actually need, rather than which one is the bigger invoice.

Where asphalt actually fails.
Almost every repair we get called to traces back to one of these three. Knowing that is most of what tells you which service you need.
Water got in
Through a crack, a bad joint or an unsealed surface. Once water is in the pavement it reaches the base, and the base is what holds everything up. This is why crack sealing is the cheapest job on our list and the one with the highest return.
Then it froze
Central Virginia crosses freezing repeatedly through a winter. Every cycle expands the water in the pavement and breaks the material apart a little more. It is why potholes appear in February rather than in the depth of December.
And traffic did the rest
Wheels pull the broken material out and a weakness becomes a hole. By this point you are patching instead of sealing — which still beats resurfacing, which still beats replacing. Every step you skip costs more than the one before it.

Sealcoating and line striping: Seal Pro Masters.
Seal Pro Masters is our sister business, specialising in sealcoating, crack filling and parking-lot line striping across Central Virginia and Charlottesville. It is a separate outfit with its own number — if striping is what you are after, that is where to go.
A driveway does not have to come out of one month.
We are set up with Service Finance Company, so paving and resurfacing work can be financed rather than paid in a lump. It is worth knowing before you decide to patch something for another year.

Questions we get asked.
What types of asphalt services do you offer?
A full range of asphalt services: paving, resurfacing, sealcoating, crack sealing, pothole patching and asphalt repairs — for residential, commercial and municipal projects alike.
How long does it take for new asphalt to cure?
Asphalt dries within 24 to 48 hours, but it takes about 6 to 12 months to fully cure. During that time, avoid heavy loads and sharp turns to maintain the best surface quality.
How often should I sealcoat my driveway or parking lot?
We recommend sealcoating every 2 to 3 years to protect your asphalt from UV rays, water damage and cracks, helping extend its lifespan and maintain a fresh appearance.
What causes potholes, and how can I prevent them?
Potholes form due to water infiltration, freeze-thaw cycles and heavy traffic. Regular maintenance, such as crack sealing and sealcoating, can prevent potholes and prolong the life of your asphalt.
How do I know if my asphalt needs resurfacing or full replacement?
If your asphalt has widespread cracking, potholes or structural issues, resurfacing — adding a new asphalt layer — may be a cost-effective solution. However, if the foundation is severely damaged, a full replacement might be necessary. We offer free assessments to determine the best option for you.
What areas do you serve?
Charlottesville and Central Virginia — Albemarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, Nelson, Greene, Orange, Madison and Culpeper counties, which is 56 communities in all. If you are not sure whether we reach you, call and ask.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We are set up with Service Finance Company, so a driveway or a parking lot does not have to be paid for in a single month. You can start an application from our financing page.
Can you pave over an existing gravel driveway?
Often, yes — a long-established gravel drive is frequently a good base already, which is one reason paving a rural driveway can cost less than people expect. It still has to be graded, brought to proper depth and compacted. If the gravel is thin or sitting in soft ground, we will tell you.
What time of year should this work be done?
Paving and sealcoating both want warm, dry conditions, so spring through autumn is the working season here. Crack sealing and pothole repair have a wider window. If you are planning a spring job, booking ahead of the season beats joining the queue in May.
Do you do line striping?
Not under this company. Our sister business Seal Pro Masters handles sealcoating and line striping work — separate outfit, separate number ((434) 204-4282). If striping is what you need, we will point you there.
Ready to upgrade your pavement?
